It all started with construction paper and excessive amounts of tape as a young kiddo. These days as an adult (sort of! Ha!) I express my creativity through photography. Every day I wake up grateful that my creative side meshes so well with my passion for people and turned into this dream into a career.
I was so excited that Alexa wanted to be part of my project Colors of Your Heart. If you are not familiar with this project Please check out this previous blog post to find out the whole story behind this project.
The short and sweet summary is that I want to help women empower other women, to show their true colors and their inner beauty. Read on to learn about Alexa who is a beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside.
Question: What do you love most about yourself?
Answer: I love that God gifted me with creativity and a singing voice.
Q: What do you do really, really well?
A: Writing poetry and songs to explain feelings is another thing God has gifted me with. He also has made me to feel comfortable with teaching little kids new concepts.
Q: What gets you truly excited about life?
A: Thinking and talking deeply with others, singing, and dancing. Anything that reminds me that there’s a passion inside me, and it can be used in a wonderful way.
Q: How do you define your purpose in life?
A: My purpose in life is to glorify God. Apart from this, everything else is meaningless.
Q: What do you imagine yourself doing 5 years from now if you could do or be anything?
A: Recording God centered music professionally! Writing songs for a living! And 2 kids would be nice too! Go big or go home, ya know?
Q: Do you have healthy boundaries or do you let people take advantage of you and if you do have boundaries what are they?
A: Yes, I’ve let people take advantage of me. I have not always set purposeful boundaries, but I’m learning to have better boundaries on my time and emotional energy, and then my values create boundaries of their own.
Q: What motivates you to do your very best?
A: Realistic goals or expectations is a must. If what I’m doing is meaningful or helpful, it’s automatic motivation to try my hardest. People who are positive and creative-minded motivate me.
Q: What one thing have you not done that you really want to do?
A: Sky diving. Also, a trip to visit my grandparents in Argentina.
Q: What is the biggest obstacle that stands in the way of your happiness?
A: When I’m feeling unhappy I think my biggest obstacle is myself. I have trouble letting go of past mistakes and hurts. I punish myself emotionally sometimes, and I know that’s not good.
Q: What color do you feel like represents who you are on the inside?
A: Navy because I’m passionate and a free spirit.
Q: Do you feel like others see you for who you really are?
A: Most of the time, no. Though it’s not because I’m not trying to show them, but because they’re not looking to find out.
Q: What stops you from completely opening up to people?
A: Seeing that they don’t really care.
Q: What piece of advice can you give to other girls and women who struggle with just being themselves and letting who they are be enough?
A: Everyone is flawed. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. Lean on the Lord and seek him wholeheartedly, and you will come to understand that the way he made you was just right because he made you to need him. He made you so that he could be enough for you. Begin to give all the glory you seek for yourself to God, and you will start to understand the answers to the whys you have about yourself, in time. When you center your life around Christ, he will reveal just what is needed at the right time. And you don’t need to worry; he will make your heart new if you let him, and, in turn, he will make your mind new. Then you will understand that what I am saying is true: the way God made you is just right. (Proverbs 3:5-8, Proverbs 3:13-14, Isaiah 55:6-9)
Q: Do you have any women role models? If so, who and why?
A: Yes, my mom and my mentor, and a few others that are new to my life. They pursue worthwhile things (God’s will, helping others, bettering themselves). They have been through much more than I have, and I trust their wisdom. They show an interest in my life and because of that I am blessed.
Q: Is there a mantra, verse, or saying that you use in your daily life that empowers you?
A: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not yourselves, it is the gift of God.” Ephesians 2:8
Q: What do you feel is the number one thing that makes women in today’s society feel inadequate? What is something we can do to work towards reversing this?
A: I’d say misunderstanding what’s really important in life is probably the number one reason why women feel inadequate. We can share the good news, that Jesus died and rose again to save us from our sins! We need only accept this free gift! It’s revolutionary. Though I am not perfect, God sees me as righteous because of the penalty the spotless Lamb of God paid for me. He is merciful and loves me perfectly. He makes me want to be better when I see how great his unfailing love is for me. If we begin to see our identity and worth in and through Christ, our thoughts of inadequacy begin to change. We then begin to see that he fills the gap; we are made adequate through him.

Alexa is a great example of a godly, beautiful woman. Even if she wasn’t my very own sweet daughter I would say this, but I have been blessed to be her Mother.
