It all started with construction paper and excessive amounts of tape as a young kiddo. These days as an adult (sort of! Ha!) I express my creativity through photography. Every day I wake up grateful that my creative side meshes so well with my passion for people and turned into this dream into a career.
Bridal Sessions are overrated. Or that is what I used to think, before I became a photographer and unfortunately after I got married, but goodness do I have a different perspective on them now. I’m hoping by sharing what I have learned and now know, that you will see how awesome a bridal session can be!
Just look at this gorgeous bouquet in these photos from The Flower Factory. They really listen to your vision and produce amazing bouquets! Be sure to look into them if you are a bride to be!
I took Kimberly over two hours away from where she lived to this beautiful, tucked away waterfall in Kansas. Now Kansas is known for sunsets and being flat, so a bridal session by a waterfall is definitely unique and very cool for us here in Kansas! But that did mean a bit of a drive. Kimberly was more than up for the adventure.
A longer drive means you need time, so having this session separate from the wedding is a must as no one has an extra 6 hours in their wedding day JUST for photos of the bride.
Kimberly’s bridal session took place AFTER her weddings. A lot of brides do not even consider this, but it is perfect, and here is why. You already wore your dress and a little bit of the “this is white and new so I can’t get a spec of dirt on it” factor has worn off. This means you will be more apt to be ok getting a little dirty. Kimberly’s dress got a tad muddy and a little wet, but LOOK at the photos! It was worth it. Kimberly said it was worth it and she knew she could get her dress cleaned afterwards anyway.
Photos like this would NEVER have been possible on their wedding day! Between the long drive and the fact that Kimberly had to change into her dress once we hiked to the waterfall and out of it before we left.
If you have your bridal session before your wedding you probably will not want your husband to be at your session, bad luck and all of that jazz, but if you have your session after the wedding, he can come along, and pose in a photo with you, and your photo will look like this, and you will want to blow it up huge on a metal print and hang it above your bed! YES!
If you want stunning, jaw dropping photos, consider doing a bridal session after your wedding!
Basically all of this to say, bridal sessions are not overrated. They are a time to get creative, find an awesome location, have fun, get to wear your dress more than once and make memories that will last for generations to come.
