It all started with construction paper and excessive amounts of tape as a young kiddo. These days as an adult (sort of! Ha!) I express my creativity through photography. Every day I wake up grateful that my creative side meshes so well with my passion for people and turned into this dream into a career.
If you are newly engaged, you most likely are searching online for a wedding photographer and that probably means you have come across the term “Wedding Consultation”. What is a wedding consultation? One photographer is saying it is pressure free, what does that mean? Do I need a consultation? Can’t I book with whomever I want?
You just got engaged and dove into wedding planning and everything is new and overwhelming. This it totally normal. I want to break down what I do at a wedding consultation to help you know what to expect, at least from me.
Whenever possible, I like to meet my prospective bride and groom clients in person. It is just so personal! I like to meet at a coffee shop or cafe, someplace casual. I always start off asking about how you two met, your story, how you got engaged, how did the proposal happen, was it a surprise, who picked out the ring, etc. I ask all these questions to get to know you two. When you become my client you become more than just a name on a paper, I want a relationship with you to better serve you. Plus I LOVE hearing love stories. No two are the same and they are always so beautiful.
We will chat about your wedding, the colors, the theme, your bridal party, family dynamics, your expectations, and that amazing photo on Pinterest you really want to replicate. You can ask me questions about your wedding day timeline, when to start getting ready, how long bridal portraits will take, if I know any good florist in town, and if I’ve every shoot the venue you booked.
I will take you through my different collections that I offer and point you in the right direction for your wedding based on what you have told me about your day. I’m upfront about the cost, payments plans and the contract. I do not want you to have any surprises down the line.
At the end of our conversation I usually wrap up by letting you know I’ll send you my contract and invoice to look over and if booking with me is something you want to pursue, you can just let me know later. I never ask you if you want to book at your consultation, I never make you sign a contract. I respect the fact that you need time to discus it with your fiance. That being said I have had brides and grooms tell me they absolutely want to book before our consultation is over or text me once I arrive home saying they want to book with me, but I’ve also had clients I thought had passed on booking with me only to contact me after three months and say they are ready to book.
If I don’t hear from you within 5-7 days after our meeting I will follow up with you maybe once or twice. I know that when you are wedding planning things are a bit crazy and sometimes a “to do” list item can slip through the cracks.
And that’s it! That is the basics of what a wedding consolation looks like with Valerie Shannon Photography. If we are unable to meet in person due to scheduling conflicts or geographical differences I am more than happy to call or Skype with you.
I booked eight weddings this past month alone and I only accept 25 weddings per year in order to ensure you get all of my attention. So if you are wanting to learn more about the Valerie Shannon Photography wedding experience, please email me at valerie@valerieshannonphotography.com, or use my contact form here, or call or text at 316-518-7351. Let’s set up your pressure free consultation today!
