It all started with construction paper and excessive amounts of tape as a young kiddo. These days as an adult (sort of! Ha!) I express my creativity through photography. Every day I wake up grateful that my creative side meshes so well with my passion for people and turned into this dream into a career.
Beautiful Rooftop Proposal
Engagement session is here and it is one of my favorite times of the year! I love seeing everyone’s exciting news pop up on Facebook and Instagram! It seems like a new couple gets engaged everyday and it is just so wonderful! Proposals are so romantic. I still can’t believe how perfect mine was. If you want to read about it, click here!
I’m here to let you in on a growing trend that is simply beautiful and a way that freezes this incredibly sweet and emotional moment in time: hiring a photographer for your proposal!
The hardest part about hiring a photographer is that the proposal has to be kept a secret! How in the world can you hire a photographer and get photos without the other one knowing?
1) Hire a photographer to do a “couples” session of the two of you. These are very common during the holidays and so no one should be suspicious, especially if you can make it sound like their idea or if it is their idea and you decide to propose. Coordinate with your photographer ahead of time and let them know that you plan on proposing during the session. I promise your photographer will be thrilled! I LOVE photographing proposals! I usually set up a key word of phrase and that lets the one doing the proposing know that this is a good spot with great light and will make for stunning images. Letting your photographer ahead of time is very important as we can then have a beautiful spot with perfect lighting picked out for you. This ensures your photos will be magical!
2) Hire a photographer to wait in the bushes. No, I’m serious! I will squat in a bush, hide behind a tree, whatever it take and wait for you to walk by and propose. I will snap photos discreetly from a distance and then pop out later and get closer (I promise your babe will not even notice as the excitement and emotions block out everything happening around them).
Now how do you know if this is something your significant other would be interested in? Look and listen for clues! A lot of people are getting engaged right now and a lot of photos are popping up online. Has your babe mentioned or talked about either “how romantic” having photos is or “how terrible” that would be? Those are your clues! When in doubt, check in with a mom/sister/brother/best friend, etc.
I have found in all the proposals that I have taken, that the ones being proposed to have been over the moon excited to know that I was there photographing that incredibly special moment. I look at the photo taken during my proposal every day! It still amazes me and makes me smile for ear to ear. It takes me right back to that moment and I love it! I want everyone to feel that same happiness and joy!
Share this blog post with someone you think might be planning to propose this season! Share it with your significant other for a subtle/not so subtle clue. Perhaps leave it open on your computer or phone. I’d love to get the chance to hide behind a tree for your proposal 😉
A huge thank you to Dress Gallery for the gorgeous attire you will see Amy and Tim wearing below.
