It all started with construction paper and excessive amounts of tape as a young kiddo. These days as an adult (sort of! Ha!) I express my creativity through photography. Every day I wake up grateful that my creative side meshes so well with my passion for people and turned into this dream into a career.
I posted on Instagram last week that we are moving and so I thought I’d fill you all in on what’s going on. My husband (Mickey) and I put an offer on a house and it was accepted and we are officially under contract. If everything goes smoothly (send prayers for us, please!) we will close early October. So exciting. So scary.
The past seven days we have hurriedly packed up our whole apartment. I’ve been like a mad women packing and purging everything we own. I kept out a few dishes, one pot and two forks for us to use this week. In hindsight, I’m not sure keeping out so little was the best idea, but hey, what’s done is done. We are moving out on SATURDAY! Ah! This is because if we move out of our apartment now, there is a greater chance that they can rent it out to someone else for October and November. Our lease is not up until the end of November and we would rather not pay for our house and rent at a place we no longer live at the same time. So also be praying that our apartment rents out quickly. And by quickly I mean like yesterday! If you know someone who is in need of a two bedroom, two bath apartment in central/west Wichita,KS, have them email me at valerie@valerieshannonphotography.com.
We are actually moving in with my parents for the next few weeks while we wait to close on our house, I never thought I’d live with my parents again, especially after I got married, but I’m thankful that we had the option available to us as it will save us a lot of money! Holly will be thrilled to have other doggies to hang out with all day (my parents have two mini dachshunds, Tessa and Bella).
Well that is the update for now, after we close I will be sure to update with photos of our new home and then follow up with renovations and decorations as we make our house a home.
Let me know if you have some wonderful moving tips, or if you have some great first time house buying tips, I’d appreciate any help and advice I can get!
And can we just take a moment to talk about the adorable cow graphic!? I wish I could give credit to whoever designed it because it is adorable!
Have a lovely Thursday!

Congratulations! I hope it all goes smoothly!
Congratulations! Hopefully, I’ll be in the same boat early next year. Not excited about packing and unpacking, but buying your first home together that’s YOURS? That’s got to be an incredible feeling! Fingers crossed and sending prayers your way!
Thank you so much Mylina! Packing and unpacking is the worst, but I know the end goal is worth it 🙂
CONGRATULATIONS! How exciting!!!! We plan on doing the same thing next year. I’m already scared and anxious just thinking about it. I’m going to be a complete mess next year! Good luck with your moves!
The cow is the cutest! I totally get what you mean about it being weird moving in with your parents. My husband and I have to do the same for a little when we go back to FL, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Of course super thankful as well 🙂 Goodluck with your home and your move, document as much as possible! ?
Oh moving! We did it 5 times in less than three years. And we are doing it again in March. I feel your pain! The only advice I can give is purge, purge, purge! Best feeling is getting rid of stuff. Good luck!
